Portsmouth are battling Brazil's Palmeiras for Villarreal defender Edmilson.

Pompey were hoping to sign the 32-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.

But with Palmeiras interested, boss Tony Adams may have to offer him a permanent deal at Fratton Park in a bid to bring the player to the Barclays Premier League.
