Portsmouth are determined to win the race for Reading fullback Nicky Shorey.
Assistant manager Tony Adams was at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday to run the rule over the England man in their friendly with Aston Villa.
Yet Shorey was not included, although was later seen saying his goodbyes to Reading team-mates and staff.
Pompey are now locked in battle with Villa to secure the 27-year-old's signature for a fee of around £5m, says the Portsmouth News.
