Portsmouth chairman Gaydamak defends foreign owners

Portsmouth chairman Sacha Gaydamak has hit out at critics of the Premiership's foreign owners.

"There is nothing wrong with having the debate," he said. "I appreciate that some fans doubt the intentions of investors who come from abroad but these Premier League clubs have all done as well as or better than before they came."

Gaydamak, though, admits that the top clubs do have a responsibility to nurture young, home-grown talent.

"My intuitive opinion is that, in the academies rather than the first team, we have to make young English players our priority," he said.
