Portsmouth boss Redknapp: Villa's Reo-Coker one that got away

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp admits he still regrets not landing Aston Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker when he was with Wimbledon.

He told the Portsmouth News: "I had him here, he even had a fitness test. Him and Jobi McAnuff came down for their medicals.

"At the time the combined fee was £50,000 the pair. Then I was told by somebody at the club at the time I should be getting them cheaper and that's where it all sort of fell to pieces. I lost them.

"I remember seeing him for the first time when we went to Wimbledon one night to play in the year we went up. They had a cocky kid in midfield and he was a good player, full of energy, confident and had a bit of fight in him.

"Then they went into administration and that's when we were getting him. But somebody thought it was too much money for him.

"For that money he was an absolute steal, in fact McAnuff was probably the dearer one of the two. But we missed out. Now look at what he's worth."
