Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is a target for former club West Ham United.
Croatia coach Slaven Bilic is favourite to replace him but Redknapp still has lots of boardroom support at Upton Park.
The Portsmouth boss, 61, spent seven years in charge of the club before an acrimonious departure in 2001 after a fall-out with former chairman Terence Brown.
An insider said: "There are powerful people here who would love to see Harry make a comeback. It would be like the return of the messiah for them."
