Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has revealed he rejected three offers to quit for a Premiership rival this season.
It is believed to be Tottenham, at the time when Martin Jol's job was firmly on the line at White Hart Lane.
But Redknapp confirmed to the Sunday Mirror: "I turned down a club that was probably bigger than Newcastle and people don't realise that. The reasons were similar to the reasons I turned down Newcastle.
"I was happy. I enjoy working at Portsmouth. It was my club and I felt an immense sense of loyalty and unfulfilled ambition."
And Spurs weren't the only club that came calling for Redknapp as his stock rose immensely.
Barely three weeks before the official Newcastle approach a struggling Premier League club who parted company with their manager made Redknapp an astonishing offer.
He added: "Sure, I could have left Portsmouth on more than a couple of occasions.
"But I would have felt a great sense of betrayal and I wasn't prepared to do that.
"Unfortunately they are stuck with me now. This will be my last job in football.
"I'm proud of what I have achieved here, but I still feel that we are capable of pushing on further."
