Portsmouth boss Redknapp outlines transfer plans

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has outlined his plans for the January transfer window, with a striker and right midfielder his main targets.

Redknapp admits that he possibly would not need anyone if it was not for the African Cup of Nations.

"I would like not to have to bring anyone in. I am happy with the squad and we are going well. But with the African Nations coming up we need to get in a couple of players," Redknapp admitted.

"Looking at our squad, we probably need another striker if we are really looking to push on. We are still short of one up there.

"Most Premier League clubs have four good strikers to choose from - we've got just the three.

"Kanu's going to the African Nations as well so we've got to do something about that. It's not nearly enough.

"We could also do with someone who plays wide right. At the moment we only have John Utaka there so we need a bit of cover.

"He's another who's going to Africa and there is no-one similar to him at the club. We need someone with pace who can get at defenders and get the ball into the box.

"On the left-hand side we are okay, that's not a problem. We have Niko and Matty there. But there's no-one other than John on the right.

"I'm happy with the rest of the squad. We don't need strengthening anywhere else really.

"For me those are the two positions which stand out and hopefully we can get the players in."
