Harry Redknapp fired a UEFA Cup warning and insisted: It could harm our season.
He told The News: "Getting into Europe is great, but winning the Cup was more important to me.
"The UEFA Cup puts you in a very, very difficult situation. The problem is it can have a big effect on your league form, no doubt about that.
"There are a lot of extra games and that can take it out of the players unless you have a big squad to cope.
"You think about it, you play Saturday, Thursday and Sunday - that's a lot of games and it takes it out of you.
"I remember watching Palermo play at West Ham a couple of years ago and they were absolutely outstanding.
"They won 1-0 at Upton Park and were outstanding.
"I thought they would win it but in later rounds they put their reserves out en-masse because they wanted to get out. It was affecting their league form.
"I think there's a lot of teams like that. "Look at Bolton, they did it last year at Sporting Lisbon. "Europe is fantastic but a lot of clubs want to get out of it. It can be very, very hard."
