Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is delighted to see Jermain Defoe win an England recall.

"I'm so pleased for Jermain. He utterly deserves his call-up. He's so sharp and is a natural finisher," said Redknapp. "The problem is Fabio seems to prefer having just one striker. If that's the case, obviously you've got Wayne Rooney there.

"But it would be interesting if he let Jermain have a chance up on his own. There's no reason why he couldn't do a great job for England and he deserves a chance."

Pompey's Glen Johnson and David James are also in the squad for Wednesday's date in France, though Sol Campbell misses out through injury.

Redknapp said: "Jamo has been superb for us and Glen also deserves his chance. It just shows how far this club has come."
