Portsmouth boss Redknapp defends underfire James

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has jumped to the defence of underfire goalkeeper David James.

"Jamo has had a bad week like a lot of us but he's entitled to that for what he's done here," said Redknapp.

"This club would just not be sitting where it is today without him. We would not have finished ninth and then eighth in the Premier League. We would not have won the FA Cup

"It's been three fantastic years with him and he won't let what's happened last week affect him. He's a perfectionist but I think he's learned not to be fazed by individual mistakes. Anybody can make them and he's got a terrific belief in his own ability.

"But since Chelsea (the midweek Carling Cup tie) he's come back and trained really well. He knows he's had a strange week but I expect him to come back, have another of his great games against Tottenham and then, hopefully, it's off to England duty again.

"I don't think (Fabio) Capello is going to ask me about him but I think he already knows that Jamo is still his number one."
