Portsmouth boss Redknapp backs Cardiff for UEFA Cup

Harry Redknapp will support Cardiff City's bid for European football should Portsmouth lose the FA Cup final.

Winning England's most prestigious tournament normally guarantees the victors a place in the Uefa Cup.

However, as Cardiff are a Welsh side playing in England, they are yet to be assured that they would be granted a place in next season's European competition, should they see off their Premier League counterparts.

However, Redknapp is not happy with the rule and says he would be fully behind The Bluebirds' bid if Pompey lose at Wembley.

"If Cardiff beat us, I will support them 100 million per cent in their bid for European football," he told The News.

"I'd be first in the queue. If they win the FA Cup, they should be in Europe - what's wrong with that?

"Cardiff have been in the English League for 80-odd years. If they beat us, I will shake Dave Jones' hand and wish them the very best, they would have deserved the prize of European football and the very best to them.

"Why it's a question in the first place beats me. What is the point of them entering in the first place, then?"
