Portsmouth boss insists nothing sinister in Davis axing

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp insists there is no mystery over the axing of Sean Davis from his squad for their FA Cup win at Preston North End.

Davis' axe comes in the light of his implication in photographs taken during Pompey's five-day break in Malaga last week.

It is the first time Davis has failed to make a Pompey squad this season when match-fit.

But Redknapp insisted there was nothing sinister about his absence.

He told the Portsmouth News: "Sean Davis was there but you can only have five subs. I had a goalkeeper. And then I had a left back because I haven't got anybody who can play left-back if I get an injury.

"I had a right-back, I haven't got anybody who can play right back if I get an injury so I had Lauren. Richard Hughes has been playing well for me so I stuck him in as a midfielder because he played last week at Bolton and played against Chelsea and did a good job for me. Unlucky to be left out really.

"And I had Baros up front, so Sean couldn't make the bench unfortunately. There's no problem with Sean, that's life and that's football."
