Portsmouth boss excited by Kanu, Defoe partnership

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is excited about his new-look strike-partnership of Nwankwo Kanu and Jermain Defoe.

Redknapp said: "I think them two could be fantastic together. You've got the big man who holds the ball up and has fantastic skill - and a little man who darts and runs and scores goals. I think they would be an ideal pairing.

"It does tweak the balance away from home, though. Obviously, we've won 11 games this season playing 4-5-1 away. The turning point was when we went to Blackburn and I changed the system.

"We played one-up and never looked back away from home. Earlier in the season I could put Kanu up there and Benji could do a job for me wide. He wasn't too bad doing it - he had a bit of an understanding playing it.

"I wouldn't stick Defoe on the right, though, it wouldn't be fair. Then again, with Defoe as a lone frontman it is a problem, too, and I wouldn't want to be leaving him out the game.

"So obviously we will have to change it a bit away from home."
