Portsmouth boss Cotterill approached for Forest vacancy

Nottingham Forest have asked Championship rivals Portsmouth for permission to talk to manager Steve Cotterill about becoming the new Reds boss, BBC Radio Solent understands. Cotterill has emerged as one of the main contenders to take over at the City Ground following Steve McClaren's resignation last week.

But Forest have so far made no official comment on Cotterill.

Former Barnsley boss Mark Robins and Aston Villa coach Kevin MacDonald are also believed to be in the frame.
