Portsmouth boss Adams tells Campbell to focus on job

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams has told his players to ignore what is going on inside the boardroom.

Sol Campbell this week claimed unrest in the wake of owner Alexandre Gaydamak's decision to put the club up for sale was affecting players' performances.

Manager Adams, whose side face a crucial Christmas double header at home to West Ham on Boxing Day and at his former club Arsenal on Sunday, said: "We are all under pressure in the world.

"The players have to focus on doing their jobs and doing them properly and I have to focus on doing my job.

"We are not the only club up for sale and at the moment the owner is still here and has given me and the players tremendous backing.

"Sol has to concentrate on kicking and heading the ball away and stopping the opposition scoring."

The Portsmouth board are fuming Campbell spoke publicly about the off-field worries but Adams stopped short of condemning his captain.

Adams added: "In 1996 I came out and said the same things when I was a player at Arsenal. It is Sol's prerogative."
