Portsmouth boss Adams pleased to have kept Davis

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is delighted to have held onto midfielder Sean Davis.

Bolton failed with a £2million bid at the weekend for the midfielder, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Adams rejected the offer for Davis and now hopes the former Fulham man will sign a new three-and-a-half year deal with the club.

However, even if Davis does not commit his long-term future to the club, Adams is delighted he will be part of Pompey's battle to avoid relegation.

"I think Sean's a great player and I do not want to lose one of my best players," Adams told The News.

"He was excellent at Fulham, for me our best player, and we need people like him in our side. He is someone prepared to fight and give everything for this club.

"We have also offered him some more money to stay and I'm delighted he's now with us until the end of the season at the very least.

"After that it's up to him whether he commits himself to the club - that's his call.

"But he's definitely here for the rest of the season and fighting with all the other guys to stay in the league."
