Portsmouth boss Adams: Man Utd fancied Pele

Former Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz tipped off Portsmouth manager Tony Adams about new signing Pele.

Pele joined Pompey yesterday from Porto and Adams revealed: "He has certainly got potential.

"I spoke to Carlos Queiroz about him and he thinks he is an exceptional player. He is a Portugal under-21 international and we've got good hopes for him.

"Carlos said Manchester United were looking at him, but he is a maybe at the moment and we will see how that develops.

"He has only just dropped out of the team at Porto, but you have to be ready when the opportunity arises to make a move."
