Portsmouth boss Adams confident securing Johnson, Davis, Hughes to new deals

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams has confirmed new contracts have been tabled to trio Glen Johnson, Richard Hughes and Sean Davis.

Adams told BBC Radio Solent: "If you work hard and are scrapping for Portsmouth and pleasing the manager, you'll be rewarded."

Johnson has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool in the January transfer window and the 24-year-old has established himself as an England regular under Fabio Capello.

Adams feels talks with Johnson are "90%" complete.

"He's fighting fit at the moment and I'm delighted to welcome him back. He's a player that I want here for a good time," added Adams.

"I think it's a good stage for him. It's a good place and he's got back in the England team by playing for Portsmouth.

"He's a player I want to keep here for a few years."

On Hughes, Adams said: "Richard is good to have around the place and he's very positive. Every time we've used him over the last couple of years he's come in and done a job for you.

"He's ever dependable and so valuable for a squad, a club and a manager."

Davis moved to Fratton Park from Tottenham in the 2006 January transfer window and helped with Pompey's escape from relegation on the final day of the season.

"Sean will not let me down in any position," said Adams.

"He's got legs and covers the distances, puts the meterage on the table, he's a good technical passer and I think the fans are taking to him a little bit with his attitude and his workrate.

"I'm a big fan of Sean Davis at the moment."
