Portsmouth chairman Sacha Gaydamak will hand manager Tony Adams a vote of confidence with funds for two more signings this week.
The Guardian says the south-coast club's board retain faith in their young manager and have drawn encouragement from the spirit and commitment witnessed in the narrow defeat by Aston Villa and the recent draw at Tottenham.
There is an acceptance that Adams's job has been made harder by the high-profile departures of Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe, to Real Madrid and Spurs respectively, and it is understood that the chairman, Gaydamak, retains a strong working relationship with Adams and intends to stand by the man he appointed on a 2½-year deal.
