Porto defender Bruno Alves has blasted Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
Alves is unhappy with Rooney's claims that he'd be happy to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal miss out on World Cup qualification.
Defender Alves said: "England fears our team and thinks that we could beat them again.
"They prefer us not to be there but we are not going to give them that satisfaction."
Portugal must beat Malta in their final qualifier just to clinch a play-off spot for South Africa after a disastrous campaign in Group One.
But Alves said: "The team is only thinking about beating Malta and ensuring we reach the play-offs."
