Porto midfielder Fernando is a target for Everton.

The Daily Star says Everton scouts have been spotted at several Portuguese league matches to see Fernando in action.

Everton had looked certain to secure Fernando's services last summer, until the player had second thoughts.

However, Everton hope to resurrect the deal that would bolster their midfield options with only James McCarthy and the injury prone Darren Gibson occupying defensive roles.
