Portland Timbers forward Jose Adolfo Valencia is in trouble with local cops.
The Portland Tribune reports Valencia was arrested and charged with interfering with a peace officer and resisting arrest Monday night, the Beaverton Police Department confirmed.
The Timbers say the incident stems from a misunderstanding that was exacerbated by a "language barrier." Valencia, who is from Colombia and in his first season with the Timbers, does not speak English.
"There was no question there was a language barrier," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and interim coach of the Timbers. "Once all the information comes out, you'll see that the language barrier presented some huge hurdles."
Wilkinson said Valencia is "devastated" by the incident.
"He feels like he has let the club down," Wilkinson said. "That's the right response from him."
