Portland Timbers sign Johnson to new deal

Portland Timbers have confirmed that they have signed midfielder Will Johnson to a new contract.

The 27-year old Canada international has penned a multi-year deal with the Timbers whom he joined from Real Salt Lake via a trade at the end of 2012.

Timbers captain Johnson, a two-time MLS All-Star, has appeared 36 times in all competitions and scored 11 goals since arriving at Providence Park.

The former Chicago Fire, Heerenveen and De Graafschap man was named in Major League Soccer's Best XI last year after helping guide the Timbers to first place finish on the Western Conference table at the culmination of the regular season.
