MLS expansion franchise Portland Timbers are experiencing good ticket sales ahead of their debut season in North America's top flight.

Almost 10,000 season tickets have been snapped up by Timbers fans who are making the most of the Axe Society promotion which is offering specials and discounts if purchased by December 31.

Timbers spokesperson Chris Metz confirmed things were going well at present.

"Coming down to the deadline here we've seen a nice push with the unveiling of the new program," said Metz.

It is believed that the Timbers will cap their season ticket sales at 12,000 as they prepare to play in the renovated PGE Park which has a capacity of about 20,000.
