Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson and current interim coach Gavin Wilkinson have both revealed that a new head coach will be appointed this week.
Wilkinson has been at the helm since the club sacked John Spencer in early July but he is set to step back into his technical director role with Akron Zips and USA U23 coach Caleb Porter the likely arrival.
“It is something that we are very excited about, something that we put a lot of work into,” Paulson said. “I am thrilled with the guy that we’ve got.”
Wilkinson added: “[He’s] an up-and-coming coach who has the ability and potential to become one of the best in the league.
“I think when you look at what we were looking for in a head coach, somebody who was cerebral, somebody that would process the game, somebody that would also develop the younger players, I think this coach gives us everything we need.”
