Portland Timbers have secured the services of Gaston Fernandez from Estudiantes La Plata.
The 30-year old Argentine striker has signed a contract with the MLS club and will be added to Portland's roster pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 visa.
"We are extremely pleased to add a player the caliber of Gaston Fernandez to our club," Timbers head coach Caleb Porter said in a prepared statement.
"It was our priority to find a striker that was the right fit for our group on many different levels. We had a specific type of player in mind, someone that could create goals but also have chemistry with our other quality attacking pieces.
"We feel Gaston will not only bring that final third production, but he will be a complement to the team and our collective play."
During his career, Fernandez has spent time with River Plate, Racing Club de Avellaneda, San Lorenzo and Mexican outfits Monterrey and Tigres. He has scored 48 goals in 224 appearances in Argentina's Primera Division.
