University of Akron coach Caleb Porter has signed a new five-year deal with the team.
The 34-year old had emerged as the frontrunner for the head coaching role at MLS club DC United but instead has committed to lead the Zips for the next five years.
United were hoping that a deal with Porter could be done sometime this week but the man who led Akron to a runners-up spot in the NCAA Championship this season will remain in his current job.
That reportedly leaves DC with just one option - former Kansas City Wizards coach Curt Onalfo.
