Political unrest forces USA to cancel Egypt friendly

The USA national soccer team has had to cancel its February 9 friendly with Egypt due to political unrest in the North African nation. Team USA were scheduled to take on the Pharaohs in Cairo next Wednesday but the fixture has been canceled because of the current political conditions there.

"We were excited about the opportunity to play against Egypt, but due to the current situation all parties agreed it was best to cancel the match," U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said. "We appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Football Association and the U.S. State Department as we worked through this situation."

There will be no substitute game for the USA meaning their next international match will be on March 26 against Argentina in New Jersey before they take on Paraguay three days later in Nashville.
