Police are seeking witnesses to Cristiano Ronaldo's Ferrari crash.
The Portuguese international collided with a wall on the A538 Wilmslow Road near Manchester Airport at 10.20am on Thursday as he drove from his Cheshire home to Manchester United's Carrington training base.
Ronaldo walked from the accident unscathed but his Ferrari 599 GTB, worth almost £200,000, was wrecked. The winger, who was being followed by team-mate Edwin van der Sar, was breathalysed and questioned by police at the scene. Police confirmed that the breath test proved negative.
Although nobody else was involved in the crash, Ronaldo could still face reckless driving charges.
Greater Manchester Police's PC Nigel Snell confirmed that the world player of the year was fortunate not to have been seriously hurt. One witness has already spoken to police but they have issued an appeal to ask anyone who saw the accident to come forward.
He said: "Given the damage to the car, it is fortunate the driver was not injured. We are trying to establish what happened and I would appeal to anyone that might have seen the collision to contact police."
