Police advise Cardiff to stay away from Swansea

Cardiff City have been advised by police to stay out of Swansea the night before the big match against their bitter local rivals. Bluebirds boss Dave Jones wanted his squad to stay close to the Liberty Stadium on the Friday night just as they would for any other Championship match.

But Jones says South Wales Police have told the club to stay well away from Swansea that evening and Cardiff will now travel down the M4 on the morning of the match.

Jones said: "We're not able to stay in Swansea the night before as police have advised us not to.

"It's an away game and I wanted to treat it as so and stay reasonably close to the ground as we would do on any other away game.

"But the police have advised us that it is best to stay out of the Swansea area.

"When supporters find out where you are staying, things like setting fire alarms off and trying to keep players awake during the night start to happen.

"So it's best all round to stay in Cardiff over night and then travel to the game on the morning of the match."

The match is a 20,000 sell-out.
