Pohang Steelers midfielder Kim Jae-Sung admits he was not the most talented footballer when he commenced his career but feels he has improved enough to be considered for the World Cup.
The 26-year old, who made his international debut earlier this year against Zambia, has emerged as a possible part of Huh Jung-Moo's South Korea squad for the World Cup in South Africa.
But it was not long ago when the former Jeju United man was just a self-described passenger.
"I had the speed and fairly accurate passing. In addition, I was pretty confident in one-on-one situations. But overall, I was an average player," said Kim to the Joongang Ilbo.
"I'm playing a game I love but I felt unlucky from time to time. I was merely a hardworking player who didn't have much of an impact in the overall outcome of the game.
"I finally got the feeling that I was improving. That led me to aim higher.
"Whereas before I was concerned about making mistakes that could harm the team, I began to be proactive and think that I needed to score or assist on goals to help the team.
"I think I will be nervous until the final roster is released," Kim added.
