Pochettino says Spurs will continue to support English talent

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is happy to stick with English talent.

Pochettino has taken a close interest in the academy since he took over in May 2014, with Harry Winks the most notable success story.

"We believe in English talent and that is why we are working this way," said Pochettino.

"The Under-17s, Under-19s and Under-21s make me believe in it even more.

"It is important to see, and of course we can build a very good core of English players with our identity, coming through our academy, along with English players from other clubs, and players from outside England.

"It is an exciting challenge for us and an exciting philosophy for us to build. We have the talent, and now we need time to be focused and help them achieve the level we want.

"For example, there were eight 16-year-olds training with the first team on Wednesday. That is fantastic.

"When we arrived in England nearly five years ago, the idea of having players from that age group training with the first team was crazy.

"Even though these 16-year-olds are not close to playing in the first team, it is a fantastic experience for them."
