Pochettino happy to lean on Southampton academy success

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino is happy to continue leaning on the club's successful academy.

Pochettino has been praised for the way he's supported local talent at St Mary's.

He told the Daily Express: "For many clubs, most of the time it is a lot easier to sign a player who is already the finished product - probably from abroad - instead of using the young players and giving them time and confidence.

"It is understandable because as managers, we depend on the results of every game.

"What has been the case here at Southampton, though, is that two very important things have come together. One is that a very good project has been in place for some time. We always push players through the academy and want them in the senior team.

"And then you have a manager who fully believes in young players and wants them to come through the ranks. A manager who believes in giving them the opportunity they deserve. There is a philosophy in place, a creed."
