Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino hailed his "amazing" team after their rout of Newcastle United.

The hosts managed 23 shots over the course of match which ended 4-0, courtesy of a Jay Rodriguez brace and goals from Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

"I am very happy," Saints boss Pochettino said. "The performance was amazing.

"I am very happy for the players and very happy for the supporters.

"We had an amazing performance and not just the final result but the way that we played was outstanding.

"It is very true that there have been games in the past where we have played very well but the final result has not showed that. That did not happen this time. "

"I think overall we are still a developing team, a growing team, we are still improving.

"The result is very important for our development as a team and I am just very happy overall with the performance of the players."
