Pochettino expecting beneficial USA, Canada tour for Tottenham

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking forward to a tough pre-season tour of the USA and Canada.

Spurs have travelled to North America today for a three-game pre-season series against MLS clubs Seattle Sounders, Toronto FC and Chicago Fire and Pochettino feels it will be of great benefit to his squad ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign.

"We're looking forward to the Tour and travelling to America and Canada. We need to continue to work hard and we'll start to play matches," he told the club's official website.

"It's important to go the Tour to improve (our fitness), to develop our style and start to compete in matches. Our objective is to arrive at the first game of the season in the best condition.

"We use pre-season and the matches to improve our physical and tactical condition. At this moment, we're happy and we're looking forward to developing our pre-season on Tour.

"The last time we were in America it was a really good pre-season and hopefully it will be the same again because the facilities are fantastic and I'm sure we'll all enjoy our work.

"We're up against good teams from the MLS and they are halfway through their season, so that makes a difference.

"It's all about working hard and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for the start of the season, that's what counts."

Tottenham take on MLS league leaders Seattle on July 19, ex-Spurs striker Jermain Defoe's Toronto on July 23 and the Fire on July 26.
