Brisbane Roar striker Sergio van Dijk has revealed that the players have taken the blame for the meltdown they experienced on Sunday.

The Roar led by a goal well into the final ten minutes of play before Wellington Phoenix’s Chris Greenacre scored an equaliser in the 85th minute and sparked an implosion of sorts from Roar players.

Youngster Tommy Oar was sent off for receiving two cautions within two minutes and several other players were booked in the dying stages.

It also led to the expulsion of coach Frank Farina from the sidelines but van Dijk has not lay blame elsewhere, saying the players must accept responsibility.

"We don't blame anyone else. We blame ourselves," Van Dijk said. "Obviously, we were all very disappointed. We let them cross too many balls into the box.

"If you let them do that 20 times the law of averages says someone will hit a header and it goes in.

"When you see things happening like that you have to react with your defensive shape and not wait until the game is over."
