Player of the Year Mulgrew dreamt of Celtic chants

Charlie Mulgrew was yesterday named the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Player of the Year for his performances for Celtic this season.

The versatile 26-year old has become the most improved player in Scotland over the last few years and capped a remarkable season off with an award that suggests he has finally made it to the top.

Mulgrew admits that he at times doubted himself but always thought he would get there to hear the Hoops fans chant his name around the Parkhead stadium.

"When you're a young Celtic supporter you dream of hearing the fans sing a song that's just for you. I felt humbled by the moment," he said.

"It showed me the fans were appreciating my efforts on their behalf and the song gave me even more confidence.

"You always have wee moments when you doubt yourself and that's when you need some strong people around about you to help you keep believing in yourself."
