The likes of Moussa Sissoko, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Mathieu Debuchy would all step comfortably into a top four outfit. Their quality is not in doubt. But when chief scout Graham Carr and manager Alan Pardew were discussing their prospects, you do wonder whether their ability to handle the pressure of a relegation battle ever cropped up in conversation. You fancy the French lads were signed with the view to lifting Pardew's squad into top four reckoning, not scrapping for survival in the relegation mire. The limp resistance offered against Sunderland was dismissed as derby culture shock. But after Liverpool, does Pardew's French fancies have the bottle needed to stay up?

WHAT IS CHELSEA'S END GAME WITH THEIR LOAN STARS?To the loan success of Thibaut Courtois (Atletico Madrid), Kevin de Bruyne (Werder Bremen) and Romelu Lukaku (West Brom), Chelsea fans can add Eden Hazard's kid brother, Thorgan, and the trees he's pulling up at Zulte Waregem. Thorgan Hazard's exploits in Belgium are now reaching the English press after a season where's inspired Zulte-Waregem to the brink of Champions League qualification. Thorgan, more a midfield playmaker than the dynamic winger Eden is, further raises questions about the end game of Chelsea's transfer policy. De Bruyne appears set to be sold having never pulled on a Blues shirt and Lukaku could be crowded out if Radamel Falcao arrives to join Fernando Torres and Demba Ba as a third senior striker. Thorgan has shown this season why Eden rates his younger brother as the bigger talent. But where can Chelsea find room for him? Is there even a willingness to explore the prospect?

RODGERS MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO BLOCK STURRIDGE PROGRESSAs he displayed at St James' Park, Danny Sturridge offers so much to Liverpool. It would be a real shame if the progress he's made was suddenly hindered by manager Brendan Rodgers bringing in a new, big-money striker signing. Sturridge was a box of tricks against Newcastle United, showing off everything in his locker, two quality finishes and the awareness to create Jordan Henderson's first. He could be anything, but needs to be playing regularly. If Rodgers is determined to win the race for QPR striker Loic Remy, whose very similar to Sturridge, you do fear for the England international.

MALONEY MATCHING MARTINEZ PRAISEShaun Maloney deserved to finish on the winning team at the DW on Saturday. Maloney, like Wigan Athletic, were unlucky to be pegged back by Tottenham late on. Latics boss Roberto Martinez declared Maloney "the best No10 in the League" earlier this year and on the weekend, he certainly didn't suffer in comparison with Gareth Bale and Moussa Dembele.

TWITTER REASON FOR SUAREZ BANA trending topic on Twitter? That's why the FA gave Liverpool striker Luis Suarez his ten-match ban? Are you kidding? The FA's attempts to gain ground on the Premier League will surely have been hurt by their panel's explanation for Suarez's biting ban. There was a good case to argue for the ten matches after his previous seven game suspension in Holland. Instead, the FA cited TV and Twitter as reasons for the length of Suarez's ban - dovetailing nicely into British PM David Cameron's need to inject himself into the debate. The perfect fit - which did nothing for the FA's reputation with the football public. Premier League powerbrokers must be loving this.

FULHAM'S 'RODNEY' TROTTA HAS IT ALL TO DO AT BRENTFORDThey have high hopes for Marcello Trotta at Fulham. But he'll struggle to shake his 'Rodney' nickname after his howler for Brentford on Saturday. Trotta, ignoring team instructions. chose to take an injury-time spotkick which would have sent Brentford into the Championship. Instead, he hit the bar, the ball was forced to the other end of the pitch where Doncaster scored to win the League One title - leaving Brentford out of the automatic promotion places. Trotta still has a chance to atone in the playoffs, but before then, he faces a difficult return to training today.
