Liverpool's plans for their proposed new development at Anfield have shown a memorial garden for victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
The Liverpool Echo has reported that LFC have opted to erect the memorial area behind the Main Stand after speaking with the families of the 96 people who tragically lost their lives when part of the Hillsborough Stadium collapsed during the FA Cup semi-final in 1989.
The architect of the 'new' Anfield, Peter Swift, confirmed that the memorial garden would be included as part of the redevelopment at the famed Merseyside venue.
"You don't need me to tell you how important this is; to celebrate as well as commemorate. We've had ongoing dialogue with families, fans and ex-players," he told the Echo.
"We're more than aware that the place needs to be peaceful, particularly for those wishing to pay their respects and reflect.
"The idea is that it is accommodated in the fabric of the stadium and it is given great prominence, but also doesn't get compromised by the movement of thousands of fans on a matchday."
