Arsenal hero Robert Pires has urged his old club to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Sokratis has been offered to the Gunners over the past week.

Pires has urged his former club to make the move.

“I think improving the defence must be a priority for the new manager and I think Sokratis Papastathopoulos would be a very good signing," Pires said.

“He's been a consistent performer for Borussia Dortmund and I would like to see him lead the defensive line for Arsenal."

Sokratis joined Borussia Dortmund five years ago, having been scouted by Arsenal's head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat.
