Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is backing their pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. Rooney has been linked with Barca, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal this summer.

Pique believes Rooney would be an ideal signing for Spanish champions Barca.

He said: "He can adapt to many positions. He's best as the centre-forward, but we have even seen him on left or right side.

"He is very versatile, strong, fast, has great technique. I don't think he would have any problems adapting."
