Stefano Pioli is confident he can drag Bologna away from the dropzone after replacing Pierpaolo Bisoli as coach.

While Davide Ballardini turned down an offer from the club given his worries about the strength of the side, Pioli remains optimistic.

"I'm convinced that Bologna are an important club," stated the former Parma and Chievo Verona tactician.

"This squad has the capabilities to have an excellent season. We'll need time, but we have to start improving.

"The support of the fans could also provide an extra weapon for us - we have to repay them for their backing."
