Pieroni waiting for Middlesbrough offer

Belgium international Luigi Pieroni has says that he is waiting on a call from Middlesbrough.

Pieroni, famous in France for his heading ability, looks set to leave Les Canaris following their relegation from Ligue 1 and is optimistic of making the switch to the Premier League.

"I am aware of the fact that Middlesbrough are interested in me," Pieroni told setanta.com.

"I am on stand-by for the moment, waiting for a final answer. I have to say that I love the English league and Boro are a very good team.

"Yes, my headers could be an asset there. They [Premier League clubs] play offensive football. The matches are passionate and spectacular. They are also very physical.

"I am waiting for a phone call from my agent in the next one or two days."

When asked if he was willing to undergo a trial, Pieroni said he would prefer to make a permanent switch off the bat.

"We haven't talked about a trial period," said Pieroni.

Pieroni claims he was also approached by Blackburn, but believes Rovers' interest in him cooled following their signing of Bayern Munich's Roque Santa Cruz.

"Blackburn also approached me, but they have signed Santa Cruz so they don't need another striker," he added.

"The Strasbourg option is also ruled out."
