Pienaar: No World Cup hangover for Everton players

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar insists he and the Blues squad are not suffering from World Cup hangovers, reports BBC Sport. The 28 year old says the team have shown the freshness and desire to produce performances this season.

"When I went into the World Cup I was feeling tired, but now I feel much better," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It's really up to the player himself whether he wants to push and whether he has the desire to do good again the following season."

The South African international added: "I think all the players that came back from the World Cup have got the desire to do good. So let's hope no one has a hangover."

Everton's start to the new campaign has only yielded two points from four Premier League games, something the former Ajax man is confident will change, starting with Newcastle on Saturday.

"We've been unfortunate against Wolves and Aston Villa this season," Pienaar continued.

"Also against Manchester United on Saturday, but with the players they have, they have a great team. For us to come back in the last three minutes shows we have character in the team.

"We want to win games, so we just have to keep winning from the start and not wait so late to get back into the game."
