Philly's MacMath to step up in third Everton training spell

Philadelphia Union head coach John Hackworth is of the belief that goalkeeper Zac MacMath is in a much better position to undertake another Everton training stint.

The 21-year old is gearing up to again spend time with the Premier League club following two previous spells but Hackworth suggests he is a much more confident player now he is the Union number one.

"This is the first time he will have an offseason where he knows he's the No. 1 going into the preseason," Hackworth said.

"For him to be with (USA international) Tim Howard, who he has a really good relationship with, is important. It's a great situation for Zac training with Everton."

Hackworth admits that it is not always the best idea for players to head away during the off-season to continue training but on this occasion he indicated that MacMath may prosper from the experience.

"It's one of those philosophical questions of whether it's important for players to go on offseason training stints," he added.

"It's really for every individual. We had a long season and it's tough on these guys. For most of them, they need some kind of break. But there are players that will benefit from a training stint abroad."
