Phillips wants to play again at Sunderland - with Blackpool

Kevin Phillips hopes he can play at Sunderland - with Blackpool next season.

The Black Cats legend admits he has come close several times to re-signing with the club.

"Last January after Sunderland had sold Darren Bent I knew there was some talk of me going back but there was never anything official or any contact made with Birmingham or with me," he told The Journal.

"I think I thought that this would be my last season but it's going so well and as long as you feel good and you feel like you can do it, why would you bother retiring?

"Quinny said to me that you're a long time retired, he said you should play as long as you could. And who knows, it would be brilliant to go back again next season if we (Blackpool) get promoted."
