Philadelphia Union retain Colombian youngster Torres

Philadelphia Union have retained the services of Colombian midfielder Roger Torres.

The Union have exercised their option to keep Torres and complete his transfer from America de Cali after he had been on loan for the 2010 and 2011 MLS seasons.

The 20-year old has made 46 appearances (19 starts) for the Union, scoring three goals and providing eight assists, and his permanent signing has delighted head coach Peter Nowak.

"We're very happy to keep Roger in Philadelphia and see the benefits of the investment we've made in him," said Nowak. "Roger has shown the ability to be a valuable playmaker and we look forward to helping him continue his development."

Torres added: "I'm thrilled to remain in Philadelphia, where I've become comfortable with my teammates and the coaching staff.

"I love to play in front of our fans at PPL Park and will continue working hard so I can help the team reach its goals."
