Philadelphia Union enjoying off-field success

Despite beginning their time in Major League Soccer with just one win from seven matches, expansion franchise Philadelphia Union are enjoying plenty of success off-field.

The Union have played just two matches at their temporary home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, but attracted more than 60,000 to both and have sold out season tickets despite their debut season being just nine weeks old.

Exhibition matches against Manchester United and Celtic FC are on the horizon and merchandise sales top the MLS indicating things are progressing well for the competition's newest team.

"We always knew the market had the potential to reach the heights," Union president Tom Veit said. "We set our goals high.

"We want people sitting in a cafe in Lyon or Paris or in Italy to think of the Union as the brand name they think about with U.S. soccer. Just like when you think of the English Premier League, you think about Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal; when you think of Serie A you think of AC Milan, Inter Milan.

"That's what we wanted to be, to be the most admired U.S. soccer brand in the world and one of the best clubs in the world."
