Philadelphia Union acquire Carroll from Columbus Crew

Philadelphia Union have traded a draft pick to Columbus Crew for the services of midfielder Brian Carroll.

The 29-year old will saddle up with the Union for the 2011 MLS season as Crew will receive pick 28 in the SuperDraft and allocation money.

Originally it was Sporting Kansas City's natural pick in the second round but the selection was exchanged for defender Shavar Thomas on June 30.

Carroll, winner of two MLS Cups with Columbus (2008) and DC United (2004), made 28 appearances for the Crew this season for a total of 84 with the club. He also made 120 MLS appearances for DC between 2004 and 2007.
