Former Manchester United No2 Mike Phelan says his old club were slow in reacting to the summer market. But he insists manager David Moyes can handle the pressure of the top job.
Phelan told talkSPORT: "When it comes to the transfer window they were probably a bit slow in reacting to the market.
"Due to United winning the league comfortably last year, I'm not saying they were resting on their laurels but the fact is every other club was not going to let that happen again.
"To close that gap they had to spend big. United will always be in for the right quality player that not only comes into the club but also goes straight into the team."
